Mobile Theme

At the request of one of my iPhone totin’ visitors, I have started experimenting with mobile themes. The WPtouch theme is installed right now, so certain iPhone/Android/BB visitors will be greeted with a much different looking blog. I’m not sold on the colors or feel of that theme, but I do see how it could [...]

My Antisocial Network

Do you wonder what all that tweetin’ is you hear so much about about? Perhaps you wanted to join a social network, but you were thrown off by all the “other people” lurking around? Maybe you do belong, but you’ve seen the fail whale* one too many times? Well, then do I have the place [...]

I am spying on you

Almost all websites are, actually. When you visit a site, a little snippet of information about you is sent to that site’s log files. Same for clicking just about any link, be it a website, an ad, or a picture. So what information are you giving up? Your IP Address For most people your IP [...]

I am all that is man

Okay, there’s a wee bit of hyperbole in that title. I still can’t bench my own weight, explain baseball’s infield fly rule, or understand anything that happens under the hood of a car. So I might be a few skills short of getting into the Manly Man Club (where I imagine that Ted Nugent or [...]

On Privacy

I filled out our Census form today. Several “news” stories I saw about potential privacy implications, or rather about politicians and public figures spreading FUD about those privacy implications, was what reminded me to fill mine out. So is there a hidden government conspiracy to track you and everything about you? Are there giant databases [...]

WordPress RSS

I noticed that my RSS feed was only showing snippets of my posts, not the full text. A quick check of the Settings –> Reading section confirms that I’m set to output full text. And my Feedburner options are also set to output full text. So what gives? Google had the answer as usual. There [...]

I don’t like piano bars.

…but I am a big fan of this video. As are quite a few other people, it seems, since the clip has gained 3 million views in only 8 days. It’s a guy named Merton who is performing piano improv on Chat Roulette, the much ballyhooed chat site that randomly pairs you with other video [...]

New Site

The domain registration completed this morning, so I’ve been working on transferring files over and fixing broken links. The blog is the only working subdomain so far, which means my aplastic anemia site still needs to be moved. And I haven’t re-pointed feedburner to my new RSS feed yet.

Synergy

If you have more than one computer at your desk, then you need a free (open-source) piece of software called Synergy. It’s basically a keyboard and mouse server, so you can use the same keyboard and mouse on multiple computers, so long as the computers each have their own displays. I have three computers across [...]

Website Refresh

I’ll be making some major changes to the website over the next month. The first piece is to transfer domain registration to a new host. I know when I’ll be submitting the transfer request, but it’s up to the domains to play nice with eachother on the handoff. So that could be a few days, [...]
