No place like home

by brendan on 10/24/2009

I accepted a new position at my company. It’s pretty different than what I’ve been doing, though a few of my current responsibilities will carry over. The really big change, though, is that I’ll be going from working in an office to working from home, 100% of the time. This starts at the beginning of next month.

It’s exciting and scary at the same time. Will I become more disconnected from my boss and co-workers? That’s a good possibility. Will I be more productive with fewer distractions? Also a good possibility. Will I work in flip-flops and a t-shirt, and have frequent staring contests will my dog? Definitely.

Anyway, it will be a little weird at first. Not as weird as the metal deodorant bar I saw in an infomercial last night though. That was crazy weird. This is just going to be kinda weird.

congrats on the new position. i am pretty jealous that you will be working from home. there isn't much i wouldn't give to work at home.

btw, does it matter where that home is?? how about STL?

It is pretty exciting. I'm still a little concerned about becoming disconnected (aka expendable), but I think that's just because of the uncertainty of working from home coupled with a new job role and a new boss all at the same time. Once I get into it and feel out the workflow, I'm sure it'll all be fine.

And no, I don't suppose it would matter much where home was for my job. My better half's job is less geographically flexible though, thus we stay where we are.
