Pulled off to a Shell station in Woodland, CA. It was just past Sacramento, and we decided it would be quicker to stop after Sac-town instead of in it. At the pump another prius pulled up behind us and the driver asked what mileage we had been getting. I told him, and he responded “what a fantastic car” as he shook his head (in amazement?) and walked back to his.

We stopped at a rest stop off of 99. Dog pooped. There was a sign on the vending kiosk that said the facility was tended to by a blind person, certified by the state of CA. I wandered further and saw that there were two soda machines, two snack/candy machines, a hot drink (coffee/tea/cocoa) dispenser, an ice cream/frozen treat dispenser, and a bill changer. The place even had free wi-fi! That’s the way to do a rest stop, I say. Good call, blind person. You’re doing a fantastic job with this place.

Day 5! The final day. We stopped for lunch at an In-N-Out Burger in Fresno. I had heard positive things about this place from friends and in the media, so I wanted to give it a try. I ordered a #2; a cheeseburger, fries, and drink. The burger was one of the best fast food burgers I’ve ever had, hands down. The fries weren’t great, but I’d eat them again in a heartbeat if it means I got another cheeseburger with them.

A little research afterwards revealed that In-N-Out makes everything from scratch, and all made to order. And they only have three menu items: burgers, fries, and drinks. The company is private (family-owned), and all locations are company-owned (non-franchised). I’m sold! Maybe if I keep posting glowing reviews on my blog, they’ll decide to open a location in Eugene…
